Whiskey Lake Panel PCs: beyond simple HMIs
Whiskey Lake architecture is certainly nothing new in the world of PC platforms, having been launched in 2018.
Nowadays there are several compact PC solutions based on this platform which are capable of delivering a considerable level of performance both in absolute value and in relation to the their power consumption, making them ideal for edge computing applications.
What is remarkable is the adoption of Whiskey Lake platform on panel PCs.
In a market which is characterized by solutions based on Skylake/Kaby-Lake-U or Apollo Lake processors, the new architecture improves the offer for connectivity and achived performance level, both in absolute terms and per watt. .
Vecow and Taicenn designed their products around four Whiskey Lake CPUs allowing to configure the panel PC according to the required performance level regardless the format and size of the display adopted.
CPU | #Core | #Thread | Performance (MT) | Performance (ST) |
---|---|---|---|---|
Core i7-8665U | 4 | 8 | 6587 | 2491 |
Core i5-8365U | 4 | 8 | 6402 | 2218 |
Core i3-8145U | 2 | 4 | 4193 | 2373 |
Celeron 4205U | 2 | 2 | 1950 | 1214 |
The performance level granted by these new CPUs is such that the panel PC can be used not only as an HMI but also as a peripheral processing node , allowing for greater flexibility in the design of the global solution.
